How Technology can Change Rural Areas and Farming in India

Though it is real that we require maximizing the usage of locally presented resources in rural areas, the use of new technologies can contribute a lot in refining the quality of life in rural parts. It is a mistaken belief that rural growth does not require high technology involvements.

Rural people also need access to similar services as urban India from good lights, wholesome food, and pure drinking water to affordable health-related services. Many of the things can be produced for poor people locally with home-grown resources but they need using high technology. That is also supposed to save a lot of energy and fuel wasted in the transportation of goods. New technology is also required for rural development and to maximize the efficiency of the people in rural areas.

For example, farming could be modernized through agriculture mechanization to increase productivity and make farming more active. Precision agriculture, which means timely and precise input to the harvests, is similar and suggested by including modern technology-based farming equipment. Rotavator and combine harvester are the popular machines used in agriculture for crops and are also transforming farming.

There are a lot of technological experiments still need to be explored such as – Development of affordable drone cameras for disease stress identification, more efficient and cheap drip irrigation systems, using different kinds of farm machines for planting, weeding and harvesting, also the farm machines that can run on farm-derived fuel.

Engineers, managers and scientists for rural R&D can help out the need to inspire and teach students on high-tech rural development. Development of venture funds for rural startups, finance for rural training in grassroots S&T bodies and up-gradation of social entrepreneurship should also be encouraged.
